MIRROR WILLS – the risk

Barbara and John had been married before. Barbara had 2 children and John had 1 child. They made Mirror Wills to leave everything to each other. On second death their assets were to be split between their 3 children equally. Sounds rather sensible, doesn’t it.

Barbara died and John inherited everything.

After a while, John sees Barbara’s children less and less, until eventually, he had not seen them for years. 15 years after Barbara died, John decided to make a new Will to leave everything to her 2 children and nothing to John’s child.

The reality is, a mirror will can be changed at any time. In a situation like this, John’s child is unlikely to be able to stop everything going to Barbara’s 2 children.  However, there is a way to prevent this situation happening in the first place.

If you want to ensure your children inherit your share of the estate, CONTACT JULIE ATKINSON-MCGREGOR ON 0191 455 3181 for an appointment to draft your Wills.

It’s never too early to plan for the final journey.
